Good Gifts

Fish or Bread as a gift?
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:7-12

Good gifts. A dear friend and loyal blog reader is turning 94 today. She doesn’t want any gifts…other than a friendly smile. I’ve got lots of those. Happy Birthday, dear Flo!

Jesus was continuing to teach the multitude sitting on the banks of the Sea of Galilee as recorded as the Sermon on the Mount. Gifts. Just ask. Keep looking. Keep knocking. Stand at the door and tap, tap, tap. Is it the door God’s heart…or someone nearby? Jesus told us that we will receive what we ask for. What is it you are asking for? Spiritual discernment, wisdom, courage, peace, love, joy, happiness? Maybe you just want your kids to believe or behave…or you need some organization from clutter in your life? That clutter could be physical or spiritual. Is there sin hiding somewhere in your heart? Get rid of it today! Ask the Heavenly Father for a good gift. Treat others the way you want to be treated. That’s about the best gift ever. Enjoy your day—rejoice in the gift that God has given everyone. His Son, Jesus. Open your heart to receive that best gift ever.
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 NLT

Prayer ~ Lord, just as You taught Nicodemus…"There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants." John 3:18-21. I believe. Thank you for being the best gift ever—the light of the world—giving us eternal life.
