Memory Scripture of the Week – The Ten
Commandments
You must not have any other god but me.
You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in
the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or
worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate
your affection for any other gods. ...You must not misuse the name of the LORD
your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. Remember
to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. ...Honor your father and mother.
Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving
you. You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You
must not testify falsely against your neighbor. You must not covet your
neighbor's house. You must not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female
servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:3-5, 7-8, 12-17

Love God...Love your neighbor. Honor God...respect and care for your neighbor. Bread and Fish Mosaic near the Sea of Galilee - Israel. |
During His time, Jesus was challenged
by the Pharisees about the Commandments.
One
of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question:
"Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of
Moses?" Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all
your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest
commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two
commandments." Matthew 22:35-40
All ten of the Commandments are
summarized into these two sentences. Commandments one through four are about
God and your relationship with Him. You
must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your
mind. The last six Commandments deal with people’s relationships with each
other and are condensed in…Love your
neighbor as yourself. These Commandments are still valid today. Do they
speak to you? Can you see how laws in many countries around the world are based
on these Commandments?
Prayer ~ Holy Spirit, please bless and
guide us that we would make good decisions—even decisions based on Your
Commandments—that would result in justice, kindness and compassion for those
around us—building our relationship with You and with others.
