Memory Scripture of the Week –
Genesis 1:20
Then God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let
the skies be filled with birds of every kind."
Genesis 1:21
So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries
and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird--each producing offspring of
the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:22-23
Then God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply. Let the
fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth." And evening
passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.
Genesis 1:24 Then
God said, "Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing
offspring of the same kind--livestock, small animals that scurry along the
ground, and wild animals." And that is what happened.
Genesis 1:25 God
made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to
produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like
us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the
livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry
along the ground."
Genesis 1:27
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he
created them; male and female he created them.
God was so
creative when He made all sorts of wild
animals, livestock, and small animals…. Have you ever visited a zoo? Just
think of the variety. Those are only ones that have been captured and put in
those institutions for observation. There are so many wild animal that we never
see. Of those you have seen…which are your favorites? For me it is the classic
ones like the stately giraffes, the enormous gorillas which are as often as
interested in the humans and they are in them, and the fuzzy panda bears are
just so enthralling.

What animals
have you seen in the wild—in nature where it is their normal habitat? I saw
some little black bears at an RV park once trying to get into a garbage
dumpster. They were wild. Definitely not in captivity, but it was hardly a
natural habitat for them. Garbage dumpsters. They should have been looking for
berries, grasses or bugs in trees. God didn’t intend for them to eat garbage. Closer
to home I’ve seen rabbits, coyotes, white-tail deer, elk, skunks, beaver,
otter, snakes and all sorts of bugs—insects and spiders. It is wonderful that
all these animals are just as God intended them to be and that they are each able to produce offspring of the same
kind. We never see giraffes giving birth to chimpanzees. Of course not. Each
to their own kind. God saw that it was
good. I’d like to think that God was pleased with Himself. He did a great
job creating all the different animals—each so specialized and beautiful in its
own way. I am amazed with the mechanism that is within the giraffe’s throat
that allows it to swallow water up that long neck. God had a plan there. A great
plan. If He hadn’t devised that process then the giraffe would have died of
thirst…and never reproduced. We still have giraffes today…and they still keep
drinking water. Amazing.
God had a
plan for all the animals…and He has a plan for each of us. He loved us enough
to send His one and only Son, Jesus, to earth—to teach us how to live…and then
Jesus paid the ultimate price for mankind. The price of a sacrifice for the sin…all
the sin of mankind. That was His death on the cross. We don’t have to have
garbage in our lives—because Jesus takes that garbage of sin away—and gives us
another chance. A chance to be pure and holy so that we can one day stand
before the throne of God and have an eternal home in heaven, the Kingdom of God.
Will there be all sorts of wild animals,
livestock and small animals in heaven. Who know? God is so creative…it may
even be more wonderful.
Prayer ~ Lord Jesus...As we seek Your
Kingdom may we be strengthened by Your love and grace knowing that You care
enough about us to die for us. The Kingdom of God is here now—open our eyes,
hearts and mind to follow God's will daily. Forgive us our sins and give us our
spiritual bread every day. Amen—so be it.
