Are You a Messenger for the Lord?

Daily Advent Lectionary Readings - Wednesday December 13th
Psalm 27
Malachi 2:10 - 3:1
Luke 1:5-17

"Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:1 (NASB)

A Messenger--That prophesy turned out to be John the Baptist. His message was "Repent."
Now in those days John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'" Matthew 3:1-3 (NASB)

The passage from Isaiah is found in Isaiah 40:3. That one "crying in the wilderness" was John the Baptist. His father, Zacharias, prophesied shortly after John's birth saying...
"And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS; To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins...." Luke 1:76-77 (NASB)
Prepare the way of the Lord--in this Advent season I think we are each called to prepare the way of the LORD--in our own hearts and homes. We need to declare that the baby Jesus is the Messiah--and that He is welcome in our hearts and in our homes. Are you being a messenger for the Lord? What are you prepared to tell others?

Prayer ~  Thank You God  for awaking our hearts the desire to share the Good News that Jesus is the Messiah--born not only for the Jews...but for the Gentiles as well.
