Be Still—Can You Hear His Voice?

Serve only the LORD your God and fear Him alone. Obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him. Deuteronomy 13:4

Respectfully listen to the Lord and be obedient to Him. That pretty much sums it up. Again this is listening before speaking…but here this is listening to His voice…to God, not to someone you are trying to council or help. If we listen to God, then we gain His wisdom. Hopefully that will be wisdom that we can apply to our own life…and someday use to help or encourage others. The key is to LISTEN. Psalm 46 describes God’s power…and that He is our refuge and strength in times of trouble. We need to… "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." Psalm 46:10. Be quiet…be still. We tell our children and grandchildren to be still and be quiet. That is how we need to be before God so that we can not only hear Him, but feel His presence and not fear what is going on around us—the wars, earthquakes, the troubles of the world. Can you hear His voice? Are you listening to His words and clinging to Him?

Prayer ~ Lord God, I am still before You. I quiet my heart, soul and mind so that I hear Your words and totally listen to You. Please take away fear, not only for me, but also for my family, friends and neighbors. You are our refuge and strength. We want to know You more deeply, apply your word to our lives and allow You to love others through us. May we continue to be in awe of Jesus…just as the Wise Men were as they worshiped Him so long ago in Bethlehem.

Happy Epiphany to all who seek Jesus Christ just as the Wise Men did.
