After His resurrection Jesus spoke to His
disciples on many occasions. And Jesus
came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in
heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20. In this scripture in
Acts Luke tells us that Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would
give them power…and that they would be witnesses for Jesus. We have that same
promise—to be witnesses in our community, state, neighboring regions and
throughout the world. Everywhere! Go and make disciples. What does it entail to
“make disciples?” Jesus taught His
disciples how to live and empowered them to heal the sick, drive out demons…and
even raise the dead. Jesus summoned His
twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them
out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Matthew
10:1. He sent them out to the
Israelites—to tell them the Kingdom of Heaven was near. Making disciples is
more than just “saving” people—in introducing them to Jesus as their Savior. It
entails teaching them about Jesus, His commandments, His guiding words and His
love. Scripture memorization helps us to
“hide God’s Word” in our hearts. Your
word I have treasured (hidden) in my heart, that I may not sin against You. Psalm
119:11.
Know
Jesus. Memorize His Word. Live to please Him and serve others for Him.
