The Scripture in Isaiah 61:1 was fulfilled
when Jesus read it there in Nazareth that day. It is exciting that Scripture is
given as prophesy, then fulfilled and recorded. The people didn’t believe that Jesus
was fulfilling that…that the Spirit of the Lord—the Holy Spirit—was upon Him.
Would you have believed him if someone that you grew up with was professing to
be anointed with the Lord’s favor? Thinking ahead now to the day of Pentecost—celebrated
yesterday—would you have understood or believed that God was anointing three
thousand people with the Holy Spirit at once? It is easy for us to believe such
things because we can look back with the facts recorded in scripture. We’ve
learned to trust God’s Word to be true…and it has many intertwining
confirmations or reoccurring situations presented by God to His people to teach
them…and us…about His love and care.
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit please continue to reveal God’s will for our lives that we would
be obedient and follow You. Just as Jesus fulfilled Scripture that day, show us
how we can fulfill God’s plan as we pray—and intercede for our fellow
Christians, family and friends.
