Jesus was addressing His disciples in His
final discourse during the Last Supper before He was arrested, tried and
crucified. He was always giving glory to the Heavenly Father. By asking for
something “in Jesus’ name” prayers are answered thus giving glory and honor to
the Father. Additionally, Jesus promised to ask His Father to send the Holy
Spirit—the Helper to be with the disciples forever. Those promises are valid
for us, too. Whatever we ask for in
Jesus’ name, we can be assured that He will do it…IF we love Him and keep His
commandments. That is a big IF.
Another Helper. Jesus saw Himself as a “Helper”
doing the will of His Father. This new Helper wasn’t really new. He had been
around since the beginning of time—with the Father and the Son. Now this Helper
would be with the disciples…and us…forever. Forever. This Helper is the Spirit
of Truth—living in us and being with us. So do you love Jesus and keep His
commandments? IF you do, you can be assured that you’ll have the Holy Spirit…forever.
Prayer
~ Jesus, I love You and although I’m not perfect please give me the grace and
skill to honor You by keeping Your commandments—not just trying, but honestly
doing what You’ve instructed. Fill me anew each day with Your Holy Spirit that I
would live a life holy and pleasing to You.
