Honor
your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which
the LORD your God gives you. Exodus 20:12
Honor your folks. For children that means
to obey…teens, too. For us “older” kids, we need to take care of them—physically
and spiritually. Anyone who dishonors
father or mother must be put to death. Exodus 21:17 NLT. It is good to
honor our parents…no matter who they are or what they have done…and to do so at
some other time than Mother’s or Father’s Day. I was glad to see that my
son-in-law and daughter recognized his Mom’s birthday this week…although she died
just over a year ago. She was such a creative and talented lady…who was seeking
to know God more. Life is short and usually unpredictable. Enjoy your family
and loved ones—because you never know when life will be over. To honor your
father and mother…honors God. How do you honor your father and mother?

Jesus is inviting us today to obey His commandments rather than following
traditions. How will you respond to Him today?
Prayer
~ Father, we want to honor You by honoring our parents, those around us who are
like parents to us, and our spiritual parents who guide and direct us using
Your word, rather than traditions.
