I think this passage shows us that we
should not use Jesus’ name lightly. People doing works and prophesying in His
name will NOT necessarily and automatically get into heaven. This is especially
true for those who don’t follow His commandments and act unlawfully. Jesus
knows people’s hearts and motives—no matter what they say and do. Actions may
speak louder than words, but motives and attitudes direct those actions. Then the Lord said, "Because this
people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, but they
remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of
tradition learned by rote….” Isaiah 29:13. Be careful what you say.

Jesus is warning those listening to Him speak…including us…that we need to not
use His name lightly. How will you respond to His warning?

~ Jesus, help me to always keep Your commandments…and to use Your name wisely.
