Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God
of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able
to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves
are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians
1:3-4
Comfort - to soothe, console, or
reassure; bring cheer to.
I’ve always like the scripture about the hen gathering her chicks under her
wings…it is a comforting, reassuring verse. … How often I
wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under
her wings…. Luke 13:34 Growing up on a farm where we had a few chickens—I know what
it means to a mother hen to gather her chicks. Comfort and protect. God
comforts and protects us in our afflictions the same way as that mother hen.
Afflictions, whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual, can all be
mercifully comforted…healed. Just as God comforts us…we are admonished to give
comfort. Therefore comfort one another
with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:18. Words of comfort, reassurance and
encouragement.
