God is Father

Day 26 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father." For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:15-17 NLT

My Grandfather on my Dad’s side of the family was German—born in Romania and came to the United States as a teenager. He spoke Russian, German, and some English. I remember him as a sort of gruff—but he had a great smile with a twinkle in his eyes and a nod of his head to let you know that he cared about you—and I knew I’d better behave when he gave that nod. One time we were at Grandma and Granddad’s house for a meal and there were a lot of people there. The family only spoke German together—except for us grandkids who only knew the greetings and a few other words. Granddad offered the blessing for the food, simply, “Abba Vater, Amen.” At the time I thought he was saying that we all loved the Father—alle lieben den Vater, but in reality he was acknowledging God as the Father, the provider for us all. That is how God the Father is—the provider. He provided the earth and all that is in it including His Son—who He gave us to give us eternal life. For that, we must “alle lieben den Vater,” our loving Heavenly Father

RSVP: Jesus introduced us to His Father many times in the Gospels. To know Him is to know the Father. How will you respond today to know the Father more deeply?

Prayer~ Jesus, it is amazing that the Heavenly Father calls us His children—just like You. Thank you for teaching us about Him and for sharing eternity with us. Just as You taught Your disciples to pray…  Our Father in heaven, we honor your holy name. We ask that your kingdom will come now. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10 LT). May Your name Father God be holy in my heart, soul and mind—as I love You today and through eternity.
