The
LORD said to him, "Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die."
Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and named it The LORD is Peace. To
this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. Judges 6:23-24
Shalom means
peace or absence of strife. At the time of Gideon the Israelites had disobeyed
God, so God had given the Midianties power over them. Gideon didn’t have a lot
of confidence in himself since he was the youngest in his family and his family
was the least in tribe of Manasseh. In Judges 6 Gideon takes down an altar to
Baal, a pagan God, builds an altar to the Lord, and using the wood from Baal’s
altar, offers a burnt offering to the Lord. Because of Gideon devotion and
trust, the Lord promised him that He would deliver the Israelites from the
Midianites and He did. Imagine the peace that Gideon felt. Have you ever felt
the peace of the Lord—during a time of unrest? I have. After my sister was
killed, I was at her house, cleaning and getting ready to sell it—it was a very
stressful and somewhat fearful time. The Lord really ministered to me through
friends and I just felt His presence—His peace.

Prayer~
Jesus, I claim this promise from You…Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to
you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be
troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27. For that, I thank You and praise You.
I will not be afraid—I know You are with me, Jehovah-shalom.
