Prayer – Lord Jesus, I understand that You’ve promised the faithful followers will be rewarded with the crown of life. I believe in You, Jesus, as my Lord, Savior, Redeemer…and friend. I love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help me endure any testing, trials, and temptations that come my way—so that with that endurance You will bless me…and all the faithful believers. Help us all to be just that…faithful.

Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts. Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever. Psalm 15:1-5 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance in scripture. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Are you a faithful follower? Are you even a follower of Christ?

Do you realize the importance of being faithful? What does it mean to be faithful? According to Strong’s Definitions in the Blue Letter Bible, faithful is being objectively, trustworthy, subjectively, trustful, believing, sure, and true. To that, I would add obedient. God expects His followers to obey His directives, His commandments. God is a good example to His followers. He is faithful to His chosen ones and those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Savior for all mankind.

Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. Psalm 71:19-22 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

Faithful, obedient, truthful, sincere, and blameless.

God is wonderfully faithful to those who love Him. Are you faithful to Him? Jesus had John write to the church at Smyrna about remaining faithful.

Don't be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

We are all going to die sometime—but are you courageous enough not to be afraid when you are forced to suffer and can you endure one of the greatest tests of time— anguish when facing imminent death? Can you be a faithful follower even if you are tested and threatened with death? Can you be obedient to God no matter what happens in your life? Are you a faithful follower?

Verse of Salvation ~ I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure. I hate and abhor all falsehood, but I love your instructions. I will praise you seven times a day because all your regulations are just. Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble. I long for your rescue, LORD, so I have obeyed your commands. I have obeyed your laws, for I love them very much. Yes, I obey your commandments and laws because you know everything I do. Psalm 119:162-168

Rapture – Church or Individual?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, please give me wisdom and insight to understand what will take place when we are “called up” to heaven.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne. ... You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. ... Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, "I am terrified and trembling." No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. You have come to the assembly of God's firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:1-2, 18, 21-24 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate. Consider God and Jesus sitting on their thrones in heaven and the worship that will occur there.

This passage above indicates that God’s first born are assembled together. It does not use the word “church” because there will likely be people who are part of “The Church” who are not first-born sons of God. Additionally, it does not say that they were all raptured together. In fact, as I’ve searched the scriptures, I didn’t find any definite passages that declared that “The Church” as all raptured “harpazoed” together. This idea that The Church is all going to go up into heaven together may not be scriptural. Let’s not be deceived. Prove it. If you find a scripture passage that indicates that the Church on earth is all raptured together, please email me at the address below and share your comments on that passage with me…and anyone else who is interested.

I’ve been listening to an End Times Bible Study teacher, Brenda Weltner, who instructs on YouTube that like the harvests of grains and fruit crops there will be three harvests of people. Three raptures. In harvesting crops, the first portion is the first fruits always presented to God. The second portion of the harvest is the main harvest; and the third portion is the gleanings which are the corners of the fields left for the poor and the strangers.

Wheat harvest in Israel
(Three Festivals that must be observed in Jerusalem, with the First being the Festival of Unleavened Bread.) Second, celebrate the Festival of Harvest (Pentecost), when you bring me the first crops of your harvest. Finally, celebrate the Festival of the Final Harvest (Feast of Shelter or Tabernacles) at the end of the harvest season, when you have harvested all the crops from your fields. Exodus 23:16

The “harvest” of souls will be similarly done with the first fruits being a select group offered to the Lord God—just as Jesus was considered the First Fruits. These sons of God, firstborn, will be called up and gathered into heaven first to serve God and Jesus, even as described in this portion of scripture above from Hebrews 12. The second group of Christians will be raptured after they are martyred during the tribulation.

Then one of the twenty-four elders asked me, "Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come from?" And I said to him, "Sir, you are the one who knows." Then he said to me, "These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white. That is why they stand in front of God's throne and serve him day and night in his Temple. And he who sits on the throne will give them shelter.” Revelation 7:13-15

This means that God's holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!" Then I saw a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was someone like the Son of Man. He had a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came from the Temple and shouted to the one sitting on the cloud, "Swing the sickle, for the time of harvest has come; the crop on earth is ripe." So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the whole earth was harvested. Revelation 14:12-16

Another group will be the 144,000 Jews who will claim Jesus as their Messiah.

Then I saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him were 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of mighty ocean waves or the rolling of loud thunder. It was like the sound of many harpists playing together. This great choir sang a wonderful new song in front of the throne of God and before the four living beings and the twenty-four elders. No one could learn this song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. Revelation 14:1-3

The whole earth was harvested…and then judged. Everyone will have eternal life—some with God, and others who reject Jesus as Savior will find themselves forever without God, in eternal damnation.

Then they will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?' "And he will answer, 'I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.' "And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life." Matthew 25:44-46

Where will you spend eternity? With God? or Without Him?

Verse of Salvation ~ So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? Hebrews 2:1-3

Don’t Be Deceived

Prayer – Lord, please open my eyes that I would always see and follow Your truth—for You are the way, the truth, and the life. Help me not to be deceived, but to encourage others that they also would not be led astray by any false teachings.

Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. Don't be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don't believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. Don't be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate. Stay calm. God has a plan.

Don’t be upset or alarmed. Don’t be fooled.

Don’t be deceived is repeated several times in the Bible as God’s command. He wants us to keep a clear head, to focus on Him—not other gods.

But be careful. Don't let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the LORD and serve and worship other gods. Deuteronomy 11:16

Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived. 2 Timothy 3:12-13

Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Hebrews 3:12-14

So…listen to the Lord’s teaching. Don’t be deceived.

Verse of Salvation ~ As for us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14

Snatched Away

Prayer ~ Lord, please give me wisdom to understand all the visions that John had…and the significance and chronology of the events.

Then I witnessed in heaven an event of great significance. I saw a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant, and she cried out because of her labor pains and the agony of giving birth. Then I witnessed in heaven another significant event. I saw a large red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept away one-third of the stars in the sky, and he threw them to the earth. He stood in front of the woman as she was about to give birth, ready to devour her baby as soon as it was born. She gave birth to a son who was to rule all nations with an iron rod. And her child was snatched away from the dragon and was caught up to God and to his throne. Revelation 12:1-5

Is the story and the visions of John in the Book of Revelation in chronological order? When and where do things happen? This story is interwoven at different times and places, both on earth and in heaven. It is like a three-D chess game or several interlocking puzzles. Toss up all the facts and chapters up in the air and see where the story falls out. Here, way back in Chapter 12 we see the rapture of believers, those faithful followers of Christ, for which so many of us are longing. Did you expect to see the rapture earlier? We’d like it to happen today or tomorrow—but we have to wait for God’s timing. Will it happen on one of His Feast Days? Who knows? We do know that Jesus told us to be ready.

The “woman” in this passage above is foretold to represent the nation of Israel and the birth of the male child is all the Christian believers—according to Matthew Henry and other commentators. The male child was rescued from the dragon by being caught up—the Greek word “harpazo” meaning to snatch out or catch away. I like that idea of rescued in a rapture. There was about to be a war between Michael and God’s angels and the dragon and his angels—and the Christians were spared from being taken captive by the dragon and being in that war. Protected by God Himself as He brought His adopted children up to Heaven.

John calls this an event of great significance. Could it be “significant” because it is the culmination of that resentment that God predicted way back in the Garden of Eden?

The serpent and a pomegranate fruit...
used to tempt Eve and Adam.
Was it really an apple...or other fruit?
No matter--a curse resulted.

Then the LORD God asked the woman, "What have you done?" "The serpent deceived me," she replied. "That's why I ate it." Then the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live. And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel." Genesis 3:13-15

What have you done? God asked Eve…and listen closely as He may be asking you the same thing. It is by the very grace of God that no matter what we’ve done—we can be forgiven, if we repent of our mistakes…our sin. Personally, I find that I seek God’s forgiveness and approval regularly. My relationship with God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—is important to me—the guiding light of my days and nights. I look forward to the day when He snatches me up!

Verse of Salvation ~ While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. Hebrews 5:7-9

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

How refreshing is a cool salad on a hot day? Very satisfying. The best is a nice fruit salad and the best place—other than your own farm or garden—to get these fresh fruits is the local farmer’s market. Our grandson, Isaac, was with us last Sunday when we stopped at the local Farmer’s Market near our church. It is only open 10 AM to 2 PM on Sundays. Great place to pick up some melons from Hermiston, Oregon. So, Isaac picked a watermelon that had a huge yellow area—actually almost half of the black mambo watermelon. He thumped it. Nice hollow sound. Yep. That was the one for us. Sure enough it was sweet and tasty!

Combine some watermelon with cantaloupe, honeydew, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and you’ll have a perfectly refreshing salad—especially if it is particularly hot outside. Top it with some feta cheese to add a protein that will keep you satiated for hours. Enjoy!

Come Up Here

Prayer – Lord Jesus, give me wisdom and understanding to comprehend what You are telling us about heaven. Help me to think, speak, and live in a way that is pleasing to You and to our Heavenly Father.

Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this." And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. ... Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased." Revelation 4:1-2, 9-11

Meditate. Consider what is happening in heaven.

In the Spirit…. John was called up into Heaven in the spirit. It seems that he was supernaturally transported right up to heaven. When he got there…there were already the twenty-four elders up there. How did they get there? Perhaps it indicates that the rapture happened before John got called up there.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

When?

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

Watch what is happening in the world, but most of all, as Jesus told us…be ready.

"Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.” Luke 12:35-38 NLT (Underlined for emphasis.)

Be ready spiritually to meet the Lord. Live faithfully now so that you please God and will be rewarded with the inheritance that He has for you. Can we be like Joseph, Jacob, Moses, David, Paul, Ruth, and others who although they were not perfect, they lived to please the Lord?

Verse of Salvation ~ So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God's obedient children. Don't slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn't know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy." And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time as "foreigners in the land." For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days. 1 Peter 1:13-20

Voices of Millions of Angels Singing Worthy is the Lamb

Prayer – Lord, I love the song “Worthy is the Lamb” that was written just about You—for You are worthy. Like those angels and elders, I fall down worshipping and praising You—now. I’m not waiting until I get to heaven.

Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered—to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing." And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: "Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever." And the four living beings said, "Amen!" And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb. Revelation 5:11-14

Meditate. Read God’s word. Are you listening to what He is saying?

Amen! Worthy is the Lamb!

Do you feel that way? Is Jesus—the Lamb of God—your savior? Are you trusting Him? Do you allow Him to have power in your life? Are you giving Him glory and honor?

A million angel as well as every creature in heaven and on earth—under the earth and in the sea—could make a lot of racket when they are all singing to the Lord. Worthy is the Lamb! I believe that Jesus took my sins to the cross, died there, and rose from the dead. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross when He died on the very day of Passover made Him the sacrificial lamb. Worthy is the Lamb!

Amen! So be it.

Flock of sheep in Israel.
They will be my sheep.
Verse of Salvation ~ This is what the LORD says: "At just the right time, I will respond to you. On the day of salvation I will help you. I will protect you and give you to the people as my covenant with them. Through you I will reestablish the land of Israel and assign it to its own people again. I will say to the prisoners, 'Come out in freedom,' and to those in darkness, 'Come into the light.' They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare. Isaiah 49:8-9

Who are These Elders and Priests?

Prayer – Lord, inspire and help me to understand this mysterious section of Your revelation. Who are these people—the twenty-four elders? I am glad that You, Jesus, are worthy to open the scroll when that time comes—and even now I sing “Worthy is the Lamb!”

Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. He stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God's people. And they sang a new song with these words: "You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth." Revelation 5:6-10

Meditate. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Who are the twenty-four elders—where do they come from? The first time we see that number of elders is in Revelation Four.

Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads. Revelation 4:4

We continue to see those twenty-four elders worshipping the Lord God Almighty at His throne.

The twenty-four elders sitting on their thrones before God fell with their faces to the ground and worshiped him. Revelation 11:16

Then the twenty-four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, "Amen! Praise the LORD!" Revelation 19:4

The twenty-four elders are not a literal number, according to several commentaries, but represent all those believing in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This concept of “kingdom of priests” was promised to the Israelites during their exodus as a reward for obedience to God’s covenants.

‘And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.' This is the message you must give to the people of Israel. Exodus 19:6

John testifies near the beginning of the book of Revelation that Jesus has made His believers into a kingdom and priests to serve God.

He (Jesus) has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. Revelation 1:6

Here in Revelation Five, we see that this elder group of priests will reign on earth. Clothed in pure white robes, washed in the blood of Jesus, these elders each have a harp and a bowl of incense—as we’ve often associated with angels in heaven. This portion of scripture assures us that it in not angels, but human believers that have harps and incense. So, as believers, we can hope to be part of this group of elders serving God. For sure we will be falling down before God’s throne and worshipping Him.

And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth. Revelation 5:10

Where will you be among this crowd? One of the elders? Are you a believer now? If so, share your conviction with another person, praying that at least the seed of truth about Jesus is planted in their heart and that one day you will stand side-by-side before the throne of God—worshipping Him in heaven.

Verse of Salvation ~ For the commandments say, "You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet." These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God's law. This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Romans 13:9-12 (Underlined for emphasis.)
