Prayer – Lord Jesus, give me wisdom and understanding to comprehend what You are telling us about heaven. Help me to think, speak, and live in a way that is pleasing to You and to our Heavenly Father.
Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in
heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast.
The voice said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after
this." And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and
someone sitting on it. ... Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and
thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever),
the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the
one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne
and say, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and
power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you
pleased." Revelation 4:1-2, 9-11
Meditate. Consider what is happening in heaven.
In the Spirit…. John was called up into Heaven in the
spirit. It seems that he was supernaturally transported right up to heaven.
When he got there…there were already the twenty-four elders up there. How did
they get there? Perhaps it indicates that the rapture happened before John got
called up there.
And now, dear
brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who
have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we
believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when
Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We
tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord
returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself
will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have
died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still
alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord
in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with
these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
When?
Now, dear brothers
and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. Don't be so easily shaken or
alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don't
believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation,
or a letter supposedly from us. Don't be fooled by what they say. For that day
will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of
lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself
and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will
even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. 2
Thessalonians 2:1-4
Watch what is happening in the world, but most of all, as Jesus told us…be ready.
"Be dressed for
service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master
to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and
let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and
waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will
seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in
the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will
reward the servants who are ready.” Luke 12:35-38 NLT (Underlined for emphasis.)
Be ready spiritually to meet the Lord. Live faithfully now
so that you please God and will be rewarded with the inheritance that He has
for you. Can we be like Joseph, Jacob, Moses, David, Paul, Ruth, and others who although
they were not perfect, they lived to please the Lord?
Verse of Salvation ~ So think clearly and exercise
self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when
Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God's obedient
children. Don't slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own
desires. You didn't know any better then. But now you must be holy in
everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say,
"You must be holy because I am holy." And remember that the heavenly
Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according
to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time as
"foreigners in the land." For you know that God paid a ransom
to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the
ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of
Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long
before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days. 1
