Rejoice With Me – 4,000 Posts of Banquet With The King

Prayer – Sing to the Lord! I praise You, Lord for You are an awesome God and have blessed me, filled my heart with gladness, and drawn me to serve you by writing and publishing this blog for more than ten years…almost eleven. There have been 4,000 posts on this blog to honor You, Lord. I continue to praise You and give You the glory for all things—now and forever. Continue to inspire and illuminate my heart and my life with Your light and love. Thank You for who You are.

Scripture posted on a wall at the
City of David.
Jerusalem

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

A psalm of David.

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a well-built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached. All the tribes of Israel—the LORD's people—make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD, as the law requires of Israel. Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, "May you have peace." For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. Psalm 122:1-9

Meditate. Imagine you are a pilgrim going to Jerusalem.

David asked in Psalm 122 that people...
Pray for Peace in Jerusalem.
Sign posted in Jerusalem near the City of David.

May all who love this city—of Jerusalem—prosper. When David wrote this the Temple had not yet been built. David’s son, Solomon, would build that Temple—an earthly home for the Lord God. A marvelous Temple that was overlaid with pure gold. It was destroyed in about 586 BC by the Babylonians who conquered Jerusalem. The Second Temple, though not as elaborate as the First Temple, was built after the Babylonian captivity ended.  King Herod modified and enhanced it and it was still standing when Jesus was living. That Temple was destroyed the Romans in 70 AD. Jerusalem is a city loved by many people—and many religious groups: Christians, Moslems, and Jews.

Since there is no longer a Temple, there isn’t a law that requires Jews to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, like in the early days.

Each year every man in Israel must celebrate these three festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. On each of these occasions, all men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he chooses, but they must not appear before the LORD without a gift for him. Deuteronomy 16:16

It doesn’t matter where we worship the Lord...only that we do worship Him in spirit and in truth. I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD."  There is no earthly home for Him…but many houses of worship, large and small around the world. Where do you worship the Lord? Celebrate with me. Rejoice! There have been 4,000 posts on this blog site, Banquet With The King, to honor and worship the Lord God.

Verse of Salvation ~ In Jerusalem, the LORD of Heaven's Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat. There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The LORD has spoken! In that day the people will proclaim, "This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!" Isaiah 25:6-9

Memory Verse of the Week ~ And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8

My Help Comes from The Lord

Prayer – Lord, You are my helper, my protector, my savior. I rest in Your care because I know that You are always there for me. Please continue to reveal more of Yourself to me—that may share You and Your promises with others. I praise and adore You, not just during this Advent time—but always and forever.

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. Psalm 121:1-8

Meditate. Consider God’s protection.

I love this psalm! God is always watching and ready to help us. I like to hike and as I start up one of the nearby hills—called mountains although they don’t have any trees—I think about this verse. I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! How could “help” come from a mountain—a pile of rocks and dirt and plants? Help comes in a powerful one—our God. As I hike I’m also reminded of God’s promise that… He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. I’m not as surefooted as I once was, so now this verse and God’s promise is especially precious to me. Falling can be scary. It happens so fast—yet it may seem like slow motion as you go from vertical to horizontal. No fun. Lots of people break bones or end up with a concussion from falling. Just in my backyard several years ago, I fell and scraped a tree as I went down. Didn’t hurt the tree, but I had to get a new lens in my glasses after that. Otherwise, I was OK. Good thing I had my glasses on! I think God had angels looking out for me that day, watching over my life, keeping me safe.

I look to the hills...
the hills of Jerusalem.
From where does my help come?
From the Lord God who made heaven and earth.

He is there to help them, too.

How tired do you get when you haven’t slept for a while? Consider that God never sleeps—not even naps. He is remarkable. No sleep. He is just always there by us. Protecting us from anything detrimental—even the harmful rays of sunshine. We go about our days—and the Lord just keeps watch over us. Safety First. He is the original Safety Officer, evaluating the situation before anything can cause us any distress, injury, or pain. If I were going up to Jerusalem as the Jewish pilgrims did on special required festivals, I’d be singing this psalm right along with them. Praise God—He is always standing beside us, protecting us, now and forever. My help comes from the Lord.

Verse of Salvation ~ I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free." Sing, O heavens, for the LORD has done this wondrous thing. Shout for joy, O depths of the earth! Break into song, O mountains and forests and every tree! For the LORD has redeemed (saved) Jacob and is glorified in Israel. Isaiah 44:22-23

Memory Verse of the Week ~ And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8

He Answered My Prayer

My Prayer – Lord, there are times in the last couple of years that I’ve had a lot of stress and anxiety—but when I cast all my cares on You, just as You said in Matthew, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30, I really do find rest, peace, and joy—a real strength that comes from You. Thank You, Lord Jesus.

I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. I am tired of living among people who hate peace. I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war! Psalm 120:1-7

Meditate. Search for peace.

Prayer. The psalmist is calling out to the Lord—rescue me. Help me, Lord. How many times have you done just that? Prayed for God to help you? Are you seeking His peace—searching for goodwill? There have been many times in my life that I have done just that—called out to the Lord—help me! Give me Your peace. I love the Lord, my God, with all my heart, with all my soul, and with all my strength—and without Him I would be friendless, hiding away in a dark place. With Him, I am filled with His peace and joy in my life…in my heart. His love shines through me and ministers to others—which blesses me even more. I praise my Lord and Savior. Peace—not war. Joy—even in the midst of trial or sorrows. Joy is a state of mind—not always a state of jubilance. Remember how an angels declared the birth of Jesus to the shepherds:

Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger." Luke 2:9-12 (Underlined for emphasis.)

The shepherds came to the stable to see...
the newborn King--Jesus the Messiah.
Glory to God in the Highest.
Peace on earth--in your hearts and home.

Joy—inexplainable. The shepherds then experienced a massive number of angels who praised God.

"Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased." Luke 2:14

Peace. Peace on earth and in the hearts of those who believe in Jesus as the Son of God…and as the Savior of the world. That is a frequent holiday greeting. Peace and joy in the present moment—for those who intentionally seek the Lord. God answers prayers for those who seek Him and faithfully follow Him. I sought the Lord for peace, joy, and strength in my life. He answered my prayer.

Verse of Salvation ~ God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation. ... Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:10, 14-15

God Does Not Show Favoritism

Prayer – Lord, hear my prayer…and continue to bless me, my family, friends and neighbors with understanding of Your word. Thank you that you hear my prayers…as I plead with You again to be rescued.

As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands. Your laws are always right; help me to understand them so I may live. I pray with all my heart; answer me, LORD! I will obey your decrees. I cry out to you; rescue me, that I may obey your laws. I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words. I stay awake through the night, thinking about your promise. In your faithful love, O LORD, hear my cry; let me be revived by following your regulations. Psalm 119:143-149

Read all of Psalm 119:137-176 for yourself in your favorite translation.

Meditate. Know that you can put your hope in God.

The key to your relationship to God is...
obedience.
Seek God - Study His word.
Find Joy
Blessings during this Advent Season.

Find joy…be revived. I’ve experienced finding joy and being revived by reading—really studying—God’s word. I am amazed that God’s word—like God Himself—never changes, yet I find new and refreshing things each time I read God’s word, even when it is the same passage that I’ve studied at some earlier time.

Like several other passages in Psalm 119, these verses describe God’s word using words: commands, decrees, laws, your words, promise, and regulations. God’s word are not all commands, like the Ten Commandments. Much of His word deals with relationship. God’s relationship to people, people’s relationship to God, God’s relationship within the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit divisions of our God, and people’s relationships to each other. The psalmist was inspired by God when he wrote this—and he was open about his dependence on God, his hope, and God’s love.

The psalmist, like many of us, feels stress and pressure from life. He is getting up early and staying up all night. No wonder he is stressed! Yet, he recognizes his dependance on God and His word, with resulting joy. Obedience is a key factor in his relationship with God. That is of utmost importance for me, too. I know that if I don’t obey, am not repentant, and am stressed by life without leaning on God, then I am no better off than a homeless drifter who rejects God. I hear the voice of God…repent, obey, and follow. Read verse 117.

Let praise flow from my lips, for you have taught me your decrees. Psalm 119:171

God has taught us His decrees. Now the choice is ours. Obey and follow? Or live our lives the way we want. The world is becoming more and more evil. Watch out and don’t be deceived. Cling to God’s word and His promises. He has a righteous wrath for those who do not obey His word. Do you want to be one of those who experience God’s wrath?

But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil--for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good--for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism. Romans 2:5-11

Verse of Salvation ~ As for us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24

How Sweet God’s Words Taste

Prayer – Lord, Your words taste sweet—and I can eat them continually all day long.

Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments. I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word. I haven't turned away from your regulations, for you have taught me well. How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I've promised it once, and I'll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. ... Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Psalm 119:97-106, 133. Read all of Psalm 119:89-136

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance in scripture.

Is God’s word a light to your path…to your heart? Once again, we can reflect on how Jesus is a light to the world, how He said that He is the Light of the world and that His light leads to life (see John 8:12.) Read and study the Psalm for today and other passages. It is amazing how God’s message is intertwined throughout the Bible.

An example of this is discovered in a search of the word “honey” which appears in 59 verses in the Bible (NLT). From today’s passage…How sweet God’s words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. It maybe that honey is important to God since it is mentioned so many times. Below are a few other verses:

I have promised to rescue you from your oppression in Egypt. I will lead you to a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live."' Exodus 3:17

The Israelites called the food manna. It was white like coriander seed, and it tasted like honey wafers. Exodus 16:31

Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24

John's clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey. Matthew 3:4

So I went to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. "Yes, take it and eat it," he said. "It will be sweet as honey in your mouth, but it will turn sour in your stomach!" Revelation 10:9

Bumble Bee gathering pollen.

Although I have been trying to cut sugar out of my diet, personally, I like honey. My Dad raised bees and so we always had lots of fresh honey. Sugar is poison, but honey is healing. That nectar made by bees is a gift from God. This is another way that God shows He loves us—creating such a delightful substance. His words are sweet. Dig into God’s word and find something that speaks sweetness to your heart.

Verse of Salvation ~ Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this? 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Honey is thought to cure or alleviate many symptoms and diseases. God knew this all along. Honey is His medicine.

It is found that a mix of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Additionally, honey can be used without side effects. This was researched by western scientists:

Heart Diseases: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack, studies show you could be kept away from another attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heartbeat.

Arthritis: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured.
In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain—and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

Bladder Infections: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. What a great discovery! It destroys the germs in the bladder.

Cholesterol: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

Colds: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it's delicious too!

Upset Stomach: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also is said to clear stomach ulcers from its root.

Flatulence Gas: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

Immune System: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

Indigestion: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals

Influenza: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

Longevity: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of boiling water to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even 100-year olds will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

Raspy or sore throat: When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.

Pimples: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

Skin infections: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin Infections.

Weight loss: Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

Fatigue: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

Bad Breath: People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

Hearing loss: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

Think of Ways to Motivate One Another

Prayer – Lord, with all my heart, I want Your blessing. Open my eyes and mind to understanding Your word, teach me Your ways, and lead me in the path of righteousness using good judgment and knowledge.

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. ...LORD, you are mine! I promise to obey your words! With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised. I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws. I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands. Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions. I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations. I am a friend to anyone who fears you—anyone who obeys your commandments. O LORD, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees. You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised. I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge. Psalm 119:49-50, 57-66 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Read all of Psalm 119:49-88. It may look like a long passage, but pray and as you read it pick out the verse that really speaks to you. What words do you see repeated?

Meditate. Consider God’s promises and mercy.

This passage of Psalm 119 covers the five of the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Words throughout this section that keep repeating are: promise (God’s and mine), revives, comforts, obey, and teach, as well as the concept of laws, commands or commandments, decrees, precepts, ordinances, statues, and God’s word. All of these concepts regard God’s word…and point to God’s Word—Jesus. We cannot have God without knowing God’s Word. Jesus said that the only way to the Father is through knowing Him.

Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

By that He gave us a direct teaching—uncovering a mystery. How do we get to Heaven—to

God? Through Jesus—through the sacrifice of His blood for our sin. We must believe in Jesus as God’s Son, repent, and obediently follow Him.

Rays of God's Light and Love
Charleston, SC beach

This passage of scripture gave hope to the psalmist and to the Israelites. As we apply it to our lives it can give each of us hope, too. I love the verse that says God’s promises, His word “revives” me. Revives, physically and spiritually. As I follow and obey God’s teachings I feel awakened—refreshed—revived. It is so easy these days to get down…even to the point of depressed. The COVID pandemic has many people still feeling anxious—but we must remember that God has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He won’t abandon us in the rough times or the good times. The gray days of winter are settling in and those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) maybe feeling the affects of less light. Experts recommend the best treatment for that is to get out in the natural light early in the morning. Ugh—that is when it is also the coldest! Jesus is the light of the world—let Him shine in your life! Take a verse out into the natural light to light the path for your physical self and for your spiritual being, too. As you walk or jog, think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Verse of Salvation ~ I am worn out waiting for your rescue (salvation), but I have put my hope in your word. Psalm 119:81

Memory Verse of the Week ~ Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24
