Show Me Your Faith and Deeds

Now someone may argue, "Some people have faith; others have good deeds." But I say, "How can you show me your faith if you don't have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds." You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can't you see that faith without good deeds is useless? James 2:18-20

Meditate. Consider faith and actions.

Christ lives within my heart.
He motivates me to love...
...to love Him and to love others.

Faith. Deeds or actions. Which seems most important to you? People who don’t even have faith in God do good things. They contribute to food drives and all kinds of other benevolent causes, but some don’t have faith in God or attend church. Some people attend church and don’t even have faith in God—it is just a social thing for them. Do they do good deeds just to be “good” to others? You’d have to ask them.

I will show you my faith by my good deeds. Do you want a list of the good deeds—good activities or actions that I do every week? Besides this blog, I volunteer at the Book Room at the local library where we sell donated books and provide the library with the proceeds from our sales so that they can purchase additional computer equipment, and bring in special programs as well as guest speakers. It is also just encouraging to the patrons to have the opportunity to purchase new and sometimes very old books. I also volunteer at a local food bank and “shop” for food for needy families. It is a chance to reach out to the community and provide sustenance for these people as some are in dire need. I overheard one gentleman say that he’d only had grapes to eat from the farm where he was harvesting the crop that day. The response from the interview lady was, “We’ll get you some food.” We were happy to provide him and his family with meat, bread, rice, pasta, and fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as some frozen French fries.

My “good deeds” won’t get me to heaven—Jesus shed blood as He took my sins to the cross. Being forgiven for my sins by His sacrifice is what makes me acceptable for an eternity in Heaven. I look forward to that day and that place…but in the meantime, I am content to serve the Lord in any way that He wants me to here. For me…blog on! What will you do to show and share your faith…and your good deeds? The choice is yours. No one is forcing you to do anything to serve the Lord.

Prayer – Lord Jesus—You are worthy of all my time and efforts. As I watch the sunrise and the sunset, I know that all that You’ve created is worthy of praise—and it is a joy to serve You here and now. Thank you for the opportunity to serve and know You.

Verse of Salvation ~ But--"When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life." This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone. Titus 3:4-8
