Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

James repeats Jesus’ teaching, which is also found in the Old Testament. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18

It is one of the overall summaries of the Ten Commandments. If we love God and love others as ourselves, we won’t break any of the commandments. That was Jesus’ teaching…and it summarizes the Ten Commandments. Take a look at them for yourself in Exodus 20 and see if they all fit those two categories. Do you have a choice to obey or not? Of course, you do!

Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn't God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren't they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him? But you dishonor the poor! Isn't it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court? Aren't they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear? Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: "Love your neighbor as yourself." But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. James 2:5-9

Meditate. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Prayer – Lord, open my eyes that I would see how I treat other people and if I am obeying Your Commandments. I don’t want to get legalistic about Your teaching—I just want to live to please You. Thank you for always hearing my prayers.

Verse of Salvation ~ Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God's mysterious plan (salvation) that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. Ephesians 6:18-19
