Today is the Lord’s Day

Just sit back and rest!
It is the Lord's Day.
No work.

The Sabbath is the day to rest and to focus on the LORD. Resting on the seventh day is the example that God Himself gave us. After He created the world and everything on it, He rested.

On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. Genesis 2:2-3

God expects us to rest, too. In the Ten Commandments He specifically told Moses, and everyone since that time, to rest on the seventh day. No work. Just rest.

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Exodus 20:8-11

Psalm 92 is a good example as to how we are to spend the Sabbath day. Giving thanks; declaring your love for the LORD; worshipping the LORD, as the Psalmist did with musical instruments probably in a corporate setting; singing with joy; thinking—which usually requires some quiet time possibly introspective review of the days and week past and focusing on Jesus, our rock and our redeemer; anointing with oil for strength; and growing in God’s grace, producing the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The Sabbath is a special day—one that is clearly the LORD’s day.

What do you do to observe the Sabbath? Is it your day…or God’s day? The choice is yours.

A psalm. A song to be sung on the Sabbath Day.

It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by the ten-stringed harp and the melody of the lyre. You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. O LORD, what great works you do! And how deep are your thoughts. Only a simpleton would not know, and only a fool would not understand this: Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. But you, O LORD, will be exalted forever. Your enemies, LORD, will surely perish; all evildoers will be scattered. But you have made me as strong as a wild ox. You have anointed me with the finest oil. My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents. But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the LORD's own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, "The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!" Psalm 92:1-15

Prayer – LORD God, forgive me for the times that I haven’t been focusing on a Sabbath Day to honor You. Please fill me fresh with the Holy Spirit that I would worship You in spirit and truth. This is Your Day—for You are worthy of all the joy in the world.

Meditate. Consider your Sabbath day.

Verse of Salvation ~ Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Psalm 51:10-12
