Rescue Me

Who doesn’t want to be “rescued”…from an evil person or circumstance? That’s what the superheroes—like Superman, Captain America, Thor or numerous others do--rescue people. Who is your favorite superhero?

Was the forbidden fruit the serpent
enticed Adam and Eve to eat...
a pomegranate or an apple?

The greatest rescue of all history was done on a tree in Israel. Jesus Christ—the Jewish Messiah—came to rescue, to set His people free from the bondage of sin since the time of Adam and Eve who ate the forbidden fruit. God’s plan was set in motion when that famous couple did just what God told them not to do…eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Evil was set loose…and it got them. But God to the rescue. When Adam and Eve ate that fruit, Jesus packed His bags. He knew that He was going on a trip to live with those humans He had created—and to rescue them from the evil—from the evil one.

David pleaded with the LORD, rescue me. Like all of us, he was a sinner—but note that he had times of obedience as he obeyed God’s commands and instructions. We are like that, too. I am and as a human being, you are, too. Obedient and sinful. God placed a conscience in each one of us so that we can know right and wrong—but He gives us free will to choose just what we want to do. What is your choice today? Obedience, or will you need to be rescued?

LORD, how great is your mercy; let me be revived by following your regulations. ... I long for your rescue, LORD, so I have obeyed your commands. ... Listen to my prayer; rescue me as you promised. ... O LORD, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight. Let me live so I can praise you, and may your regulations help me. I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands. Psalm 119:156, 166, 170, 174-176

Prayer – Lord Jesus, You are greater than any superhero from a comic book or wide-screen movie. I trust You to truly “rescue” me and anyone else who believes in You as their Lord and Savior. Thank you for being the ultimate sacrifice…and the greatest hero we could ever imagine—best of all, You are real! No one has to conjure up stories. From creation, all through the Old Testament; to Your birth in a stable near Bethlehem; the miracles You performed while You walked this earth; then Your betrayal, grueling trial, criminal’s death on the cross, although You were innocent of any sin, burial; and astonishing resurrection from the dead, followed by weeks of finial teaching and then a stunning ascension into Heaven, Your life isn’t just a bunch of stories—it is very authentic. Real life. You are the Savior—the long-awaited Jewish Messiah for all mankind. I worship You, now and always, in spirit and in truth.

Meditate. Consider God’s promises in scripture. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.
