One of the most likely places to find the LORD in the Old Testament is the Book of Psalms. Right to begin with, He is there in Psalm 1. The LORD watches over the path of the godly. That’s the path we want to be on—the one that the LORD is looking out for those who are seeking Him and choosing to obey. Those are the godly people. I cannot say that I’m always on the right path, but I am striving less and trusting God more day by day. I am determined to seek God in His word—and meditate on it continually—finding joy in His law.
Trees along the Columbia River at Richland, WA. |
Trees grow and give us great fruit when they are watered regularly. That is especially true here in the semi-desert area of the Columbia Basin where we get less than ten inches of rain a year. We need water. Likewise, we need water—the living water that Jesus provides—in order to grow and mature spiritually. How are you doing with that? Have you fetched a bucket of “living water” today and immersed yourself in Jesus—in God’s word?
Oh,
the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around
with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD,
meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the
riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they
prosper in all they do. But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff,
scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners
will have no place among the godly. For the LORD watches over the path of the
godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:1-6
Prayer
– Lord, guide me to the right path—the one You are watching over. I trust in
You with all my heart, and I try not to lean on my own understanding, but in everything
I do, I see You working in my life and I acknowledge that. I’m seeking Your
will and trusting You to show me what path to take as I take joy in following
Your laws. Thank You.
Meditate.
Consider God’s promises and protection in scripture.
Verses
of Salvation ~ In that day you will sing: "I will praise you, O LORD! You
were angry with me, but not any more. Now you comfort me. See, God has come to
save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and
my song; he has given me victory." With joy you will drink deeply from the
fountain of salvation! Isaiah
