Prayer
– Lord, do I seem a little self-righteous like Job? Actually, unlike Job, I
know I have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. Please forgive me, cleanse
my heart, and help me to focus on the good, the true, the beautiful things of
life.
For
God watches how people live; he sees everything they do. No darkness is thick
enough to hide the wicked from his eyes. We don't set the time when we will
come before God in judgment. He brings the mighty to ruin without asking
anyone, and he sets up others in their place. He knows what they do, and in the
night he overturns and destroys them. ... Why don't people say to God, 'I have
sinned, but I will sin no more'? Or 'I don't know what evil I have done—tell me.
If I have done wrong, I will stop at once'? Must God tailor his justice to your
demands? But you have rejected him! The choice is yours, not mine. Go ahead,
share your wisdom with us. Job
34:21-25, 31-33 NLT
Meditate.
God sees and listens. What are you saying and doing?
This
portion of scripture was spoken by Elihu, a friend of Job’s, after Job had
suffered tragic loss and was accused of sinning. Job denied those accusations.
Elihu was defending God. He made an interesting statement earlier to Job and
his three other friends.
Listen to me, you wise men. Pay
attention, you who have knowledge. Job said, 'The ear tests the words it hears
just as the mouth distinguishes between foods.' So let us discern for ourselves
what is right; let us learn together what is good. Job 34:2-4 NLT
Just
because Job’s other three friends were older didn’t make them wiser. That is
pointed out in this section of Job where Elihu speaks that wisdom comes from
knowing God and being obedient to Him—not just something acquired with age. Read the book of Job. Do
you think you are wiser as you become older…or are you wiser because you know
the Lord—and follow Him more closely? The choice is yours. Will you share your
wisdom?
Verses
of the hope of Salvation ~ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements
will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will
be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner
of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and
hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be
dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless
we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which
righteousness dwells. 2
Peter 3:10-13 NKJVThe earth and heaven
will be consumed by
Fire!
Then God will send
a new heaven and
a new earth.
