A Place of Honor

Meditate. A place of honor.

When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by
many miraculous signs.
Mark 16:19-20

Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats.
Sheep in Israel

Jesus sat down at a place of honor. He’s sitting there now, not pacing back and forth…worrying about what will happen next. He is sitting quietly by His Heavenly Father and working through His disciples…and us. The right hand as a place of honor has always intrigued me. When you have an honored guest at your home in the United States, the guest is seated to the right of the host who is sitting at the end of the table. In other countries the location of this special guest seating varies. God the Father is giving Jesus, His obedient and beloved first born Son the place of honor at His right hand. There are many Psalms, most written by King David, that refer to the power of the right hand. Other verses of scripture refer to the honored position of the right hand. Do a word search for yourself.

The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet." Psalm 110:1

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me. The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me. Psalm 138:7-8

But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.' Matthew 25:31-34

Consider where you will seat your guest of honor the next time you have a post COVID dinner party. Where do you want to be seated…or standing…when Jesus comes in His glory? Will you be in the group of the goats or the sheep?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, please continue to work through me…just as You did Your disciples. I hope that one day I will be found worthy of being considered like the sheep and placed at the right hand side of Your throne.

Verses of Salvation ~ For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
