Don't Be So Surprised!

Meditate.

And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it's here now, when the dead will hear my voice--the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son. And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man. Don't be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God's Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment. I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will. John 5:25-30

People who died before the time of Christ will have a chance to learn about Him. Note the truly important sentence in this passage: And those who listen will live. LISTEN. LIVE. We don’t have to be dead to hear that or to respond to it. Actually, the dead could be those who are spiritually dead. Consider that. Are you in that category?

It is possible that everyone will live forever…just some in God’s presence…and some without God. Paul gives believers some transformational hope.

But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:51-57

What a hope we have in Jesus! Believe in Him and there will be no judgment for you. Listen for that trumpet. It may or may not happen in our lifetime—but Jesus told us to be ready.

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Luke 12:40

Are you ready? How can you apply this to your life?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, I am excited about Your return someday because through Your obedience and sacrifice on the cross You have given us victory over sin and death. You are awesome. Thank You.

Verses of Salvation ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5
