Meditate as you prepare to eat another meal. Would you like to have Jesus be your guest?
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20
What would you fix for dinner if Jesus came
to visit you? This reminds me of when Martha invited Jesus and the disciples to
her home for a time of fellowship and dinner. Her family and friends were there
and she was preparing a big feast.
As Jesus and the disciples continued on
their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named
Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet,
listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she
was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair
to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come
and help me." But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are
worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being
concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from
her." Luke 10:38-42
Someone once suggested that this scripture was saying one dish…like a casserole…was all that was necessary to eat for the meal. But that was clearly not what Jesus was saying. One thing—His teaching—was the only thing to be concerned about. It was likely that at this time He had already fed the 5,000 men (Luke 9:12-17) and the 4,000 men (Mark 8:1-9) so if Jesus had wanted to He could easily have fed everyone at Martha’s home and everyone knew it. But that was not His intent. He wanted Martha to realize the value of His teaching and focus on that, not the business of preparing a big meal. No worries. No anxiety.
Jesus wants the same for us today. No worries. No anxiety. Just focus on Him and His teachings. Share His love with those around you as you open the door of your heart and let Jesus in, not just for supper, but for 24/7 time with you daily. Can you open the door to your heart and life as Jesus is standing there knocking on it?
Prayer ~ Jesus, thank you for not giving up on me. You keep knocking at the door to my heart and life. Right now I open that door and welcome You into my life.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
What would you fix for dinner if Jesus came
to visit you? Make it a simple meal so you have plenty of time to focus on His
teaching and fellowship. With fresh tomatoes available, and possible in
abundance in your garden, consider creating a fresh tomato pie for supper.
Tomato Pie - Fresh from the garden & oven |
1½ lbs fresh tomatoes, sliced in 1/4” rounds
½ small sweet onion, chopped
4 slices of cooked bacon, chopped
½ cup mayonnaise
2 cups cheddar cheese (or mixture of cheeses of your choice) grated
½ cup grated parmesan cheese
8 large basil leaves, chopped or thinly sliced, plus more for garnish if desired
Salt and pepper – grind fresh
Be sure to bake the
pie crust at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes or until browned. Allow to cool.
Slice tomatoes, sprinkle lightly with salt and allow to sit for ½ - 1 hour for the water to come out to the tomatoes. You may place them in a colander to drain or simply arrange slices on paper towels. Drain well before use.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place chopped onion on pie crust. Top with about half of the well-drained tomatoes. Sprinkle with half of the basil. Top with the bacon and then the remaining tomatoes and basil. Add some fresh ground pepper. Mix the mayo with half of the cheddar cheese and the Parmesan cheese. Place the cheese mixture on top of the tomatoes. Top with the last cup of grated cheese. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until the cheese is lightly browned. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Enjoy with some fresh sliced cucumbers or a fresh garden salad. Leftovers are good cold.
