"Tell the people of Jerusalem, 'Look,
your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a
donkey's colt.'" ... Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road
ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the
road. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around Him
were shouting, "Praise God for the Son of David! Blessings on the one who
comes in the name of the LORD! Praise God in highest heaven!" The entire
city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as He entered. "Who is this?" they
asked. And the crowds replied, "It's Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in
Galilee." Matthew 21:5, 8-11
Fishermen's Anchors in Israel
Did the Jews feel weighed down by the Romans?
|
Imagine the oppression that the Israelites
felt under the Roman reign of their country. This included military occupation;
the control of their religious activities, as noted by Josephus; violence like
Herod ordering the killing of all boys two years old and younger living near
Bethlehem; and high taxes, leaving the average Jewish farmer or fisherman,
poor. The Jews were looking for their Messiah—a political ruler to save them from
the Romans.
So here enters the King riding on a donkey…Hosanna!
Would you have joined the crowd shouting blessings on this presumed King—their political
savior? Who is He? It is Jesus—from Nazareth—who has been healing the sick,
giving blind their sight…and He even brought a dead man back to life in Bethany.
If He can do that—He can save our country from the Roman occupation! Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the King. Do you see Jesus as your Savior?
Do you have a relationship with Him that allows you to rely on Him?
