What Have You Learned from the Great Teacher?

Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit's power. Reports about Him spread quickly through the whole region. He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. When He came to the village of Nazareth, His boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD's favor has come." He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at Him intently. Luke 4:14-20.

Jesus was a Teacher. But when He went to His hometown they didn’t accept Him for what He was. They expected Him to be a mere carpenter since He’d grown up there working alongside Joseph, His step-father and a local carpenter. Little did the people know that Jesus was The Son of God—a great teacher, emancipator and healer. His comments (read Luke 4:21- 28) after He read from Isaiah 61:1, angered the people in the synagogue. Jesus knew when to leave…and He went on His way. He continued teaching and healing next in Capernaum—which became the center of His ministry as He often stayed at Peter’s home there.

Jesus was a Teacher. What have you learned from Him? Are you studying His words and applying them to your life? May this prayer, from the Great Teacher, be a guideline for Your prayers.

Prayer ~ Jesus, as You taught us...Dear Father in heaven, may Your name be kept holy. May Your Kingdom come soon. May Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:9-13)…For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
