Do You Want to Get Rich?

Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. Proverbs 23:4

Do people who are trying to get rich ever know when to stop? I know of a couple of people who have gambled at a casino and won some money—actually lots of it—and then gambled it away so that they left penniless. They wore themselves out trying to get rich. Do they know that gambling is a form of greed? Of coveting? When that was explained to me I instantly lost the desire to gamble. I thought it was kind of dumb to just throw money away—but to know that gambling was breaking the Ten Commandment just made it totally less desirable. "You must not covet your neighbor's house. You must not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor." Exodus 20:17. Don’t covet…desire…anything that doesn’t belong to you, including money. And don’t steal… "You must not steal."  Exodus 20:15. That would be taking what doesn’t belong to you. Is that part of gambling? Be wise and know when to quit…or better yet, when not to get started.

Prayer ~ Lord, open our eyes to see any ways in which we are breaking Your Commandments. Guide our thoughts and actions that we would not desire to take what doesn’t belong to us without working for it. Help us to encourage others to change their ways that we would all think, say and do whatever it is that pleases You.
