Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of
fools, or they will become wise in their own estimation. Proverbs 26:5.
Solomon just said to not get drawn into
foolish arguments, Proverbs 26:4. Now he wrote that we need to answer the fool’s
foolish argument so that they don’t feel like they are wise. In another
translation these verses may explain this situation in a better way.
Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you will also be like him. Answer a fool as his folly deserves, that he not
be wise in his own eyes. Proverbs 26:4-5 NASB
There it is. Tell it like is. Let that fool
know—but once again, don’t get drawn into his foolish argument. Stick to the
facts. Listen. That is the key. Say it with a pleasant look on your face.
Prayer
~ Lord Jesus, guide me as I speak to answer a foolish argument of fools. May we
truly listen to each other. I see that as the key to any conversation. Listen.
You listened to the woman at the well and it changed her life. May my listening
show Your love and concern…and bring others to You.
