Lent
– Day 7
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the
best part of everything you produce. Then He will fill your barns with grain,
and your vats will overflow with good wine. Proverbs 3:9-10.
Do you give up something for Lent…or do you
add something? Some people I know give up sodas or chocolate…and others add
something—like reading through the New Testament in the 40 days of Lent. What
do you do? It may end up like old New Year’s Resolutions—forgotten a week
later. So this is the seventh day of Lent, have you made any changes in your
life in regards to preparation for the upcoming cross of Good Friday…or the
joyous celebration of Resurrection Sunday? Personally I’ve tried to make a
change in my life that honors the Lord—like treating everyone as if they were
Jesus. Have you ever tried doing things for others as if they were Jesus? That
would honor the Lord.
These verses above follow the “don’t be
wise in your own eyes” verse. If a person is following the Lord and respecting
Him, then giving Him the first fruits the way that He has asked, even as early
as Cain and Able, will be yet another way of showing reverence and admiration.
The Lord has promised to give bountiful harvests to those who respect Him. Even
today harvesting grain and fruit depends on hard work that the farmer has put
in for months. To be blessed by the Lord is a joyful event—we should give Him
the honor that is due Him even for the bounty of our gardens. Can you give back
a portion of what He has provided?
Prayer
~ Thank You Lord for all that You have given and provided for us—for we have an
abundance of food on our table year-around. Please continue to bless our
family, friends and neighbors with all that we need. As we get ready to plant
our gardens soon, give us wisdom in the planning, sowing and care of our plants
that we would have an abundance to share with others. We praise You…and give
You the honor due You—for You are an awesome God—providing Wisdom and Love to
all.
