Lent
– Day 8
My child, don't reject the LORD's
discipline, and don't be upset when He corrects you. For the LORD corrects
those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Proverbs
3:11-12
It takes some wisdom to accept discipline
from the Lord. Just to know that it is the LORD who is correcting you takes
some discernment. But, like Solomon says…don’t get upset. Don’t blow off the
handle and get all frustrated. Feel privileged. God only corrects those He
loves…but then…For God loved the world so
much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him
will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. Does that mean that God
disciplines everyone? I don’t think
so. If God doesn't discipline you as He
does all of His children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really
His children at all. Hebrews 12:8. He
wants those who love and serve Him to be obedient…and corrects them so they
will obey. Are you feeling loved by the Lord?
Fathers,
do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring
them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. Ephesians
6:4. Love the Lord your God—love your children.
Prayer
~ Lord God, show us Your love. We humbly submit to Your discipline and the way
that You correct and admonish us so that we can become more like You, Jesus. May
the world know that we are Yours by the way that we love others for You.
