April 20 – The Shepherd Sacrifices His Life for His Sheep

Those who heard Jesus use this illustration (see yesterday’s blog) didn't understand what he meant, so he explained it to them: "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep." John 10:6-11 NLT

Jesus always told the truth. Did you know that a person could be a gate? In Jesus' time shepherds gathered their sheep together at night and guided them into a rocky enclosure. Then the shepherd would lay down in the doorway--becoming the "gate". No stranger, enemy, or breast could get to his flock without getting past him. He would protect his sheep with his life.

RSVP Jesus is offering you His protection--just as He did so many years ago. How will you respond to His offer today?

Prayer~ Jesus, protect and guide us that we would serve You with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength. Greater is He--You--that is within us, than he that is in the world.
Happy 6th Birthday, Sweet Amelia! We love you!
Joyous Resurrection Sunday to each of you.
