Running Towards Light or Darkness?

He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God. John 3:18-21 NASB

Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him (God's Son) has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness.
They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God.
Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.
John 3:18-21 The Message

Wow--this scripture in two translations tells us that if we believe in Jesus, we won't be judged--or we'll be set free from any accusations. If we don't believe we're as good as dead. By their choice people not interested in pleasing God--or even knowing--Him are set for some dark times. Their choice to reject God may result in evil influences in their lives. But what about good people, who just don't choose God? That is always a good question. It rarely goes the other way...God's people who choose evil. God deals with both types since in reality both are turning their backs on God. Where do you stand with Him? Running towards Him or away from Him? Towards the light or away from the light?

RSVP: What is your response to God today? Are you running to the light or to darkness?

Prayer ~ Dear God, thank you for revealing Yourself and Your Son to me, my children, grandchildren, family and friends, that we believe. Help us to continue to grow in Your love and grace that our deeds would be acceptable to You.
