How Do You Know Me?

Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these." John 1:48-50

Jesus is omnipresent and omniscient. He is God. He sees, hears, and knows everything…is everywhere. He knows everyone. He knew Nathanael, sitting there in Palestine under a fig tree—He was with him. Wow…if Jesus is omnipresent…He is with me now sitting here typing this…and He is with you there—reading this. What an awesome thought. He knows each of us. Even more precious is His promise …"I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you…." Hebrews 13:5. He will never forget about us…never abandon us. Sort of like in the chorus of the song “That’s What Friends are For” written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Sager, Jesus is always there for us.

That’s What Friends are For (chorus)
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for.

Jesus is always there for us...a sure friend. A friend that would—and did—lay down His life for us. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. That is a true friend—a true Savior. He knows us individually, knows our sins and short comings and still gave up His own life for us. That’s what I call a Savior.

RSVP: What an invitation! Come here my friend and let me take your sin and let me die instead of you. You are worthy of me hanging on a cross. You can count on me. That is Jesus for you. How do you respond to that?

Prayer~ Lord Jesus, just as You saw Nathanael under the fig tree, I know You see and know me. I’m counting on You to always be with me…to never abandon me. Even in these gray days of winter, in the good times and the bad times…You are with me. I claim that promise today. Likewise, I stand by You—and claim You as my Savior.
