Will You See a Rainbow Around a Throne in Heaven?

Prayer – Lord, how many times have I wondered just what heaven looks like. I’ve been told over and over that it is a wonderful place—but what is it really like? A friend of mine want to know about heaven…but she does not want to study Revelation. You’ve got some scary stuff in Revelation—symbolic things that we just don’t understand and are just weird compared with things we’re comfortable with. How can people really know if they want to go there if they don’t know what heaven is like? My thought on that is…trust and faith. The alternative to heaven is hell. Would anyone in their right mind really want to go there? Please give us insight to know You and our Heavenly Father…as well as what Heaven will be like.

The glow of an emerald...
like a rainbow.
Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this." And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow. Revelation 4:1-3

Meditate. Consider what God tells us about Heaven.

Jesus gives John a specific description of not only the throne, but of the one sitting on the throne—God Himself. He is brilliant, sitting on a clear, blue crystal throne. John got a peak at heaven—as he was called to go through an open door. Come up here. God wanted John to see this glimpse of heaven so he could write about it to the seven churches…and us.

This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place?” Isaiah 66:1

Heaven is God's throne...and a rainbow encircled that throne--like the glow of an emerald--a green light. Are we getting a glimpse of heaven when we see a rainbow? God placed a rainbow for the first time in the sky—in heaven—as a sign of His covenant after the flood. He is using the rainbow as a “sign” of heaven—of His promise.

Then God said, "I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth." Then God said to Noah, "Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth." Genesis 9:12-17

Ezekial described a similar throne with a rainbow in his vision of prophesy while in Babylon.

Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the LORD looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone's voice speaking to me. Ezekiel 1:26-28 (Underlined for emphasis.)

What do you think about when you see a rainbow in the sky…in the heavens above us? Someday will you see a rainbow around the throne of God?

Verse of Salvation ~ Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, "Come and talk with me." And my heart responds, "LORD, I am coming." Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don't leave me now; don't abandon me, O God of my salvation! Psalm 27:7-9
