How Well Do You Know Jesus?

Prayer – Lord, I want to know You more fully today…and every day. Reveal Yourself to me in Your word and even through people and events around me. There is more to You than just Your appearance. You are God—omniscient, omnipresent—with us today and forever.

When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, "Don't be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.” Revelation 1:12-18

Meditate. Who Jesus is and your relationship with Him?

The Son of Man, used in about 230 verses in the New Living Translation, was just how Jesus refers to Himself and what would happen. (Underlined for emphasis.)

Jesus replied, "I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matthew 19:28

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28

And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Matthew 24:30

His robe indicates that He is a royal priest and judge, as described of the cohen hagadol of Exodus 28, representing the people, going into the presence of God to obtain forgiveness for sins. This is further expressed in the description of Christ’s sacrifice once for all which you can study in Hebrews 10:1-18.

Don’t be afraid. We don’t need to be afraid of Jesus—although consider how He looked to John. His appearance could be a bit startling—even fearful! No one has ever seen a person with the brilliance of Jesus. His white hair is said to indicated wisdom and divine nature.

The statement, eyes were like flames of fire, indicates His flaming eyes of judgment of all evil. No evil will escape His wisdom and determination. The sharp two-edge sword denotes the judging of one heart, thoughts, and attitudes (Hebrews 4:12).

Jesus’ brilliance indicates His power. Power, that authority, is available to each of us who believe in Jesus as the Son of Man, the Son of God, our Savior. Don’t be afraid. He is the living one—raised from the dead—holding the keys to life and death. The keys to our future are in His hands, when we believe—with our heart, soul, mind and strength. How well do you know Jesus?

Verse of Salvation ~ When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" The man answered, "Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him." "You have seen him," Jesus said, "and he is speaking to you!" "Yes, Lord, I believe!" the man said. And he worshiped Jesus. John 9:35-38
