Fig tree. Can you find the fig? |
As
they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the
roots [up.] Being reminded, Peter said to Him, "Rabbi, look, the fig tree
which You cursed has withered." And Jesus answered saying to them,
"Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be
taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes
that what he says is going to happen, it will be [granted] him. Therefore I say
to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received
them, and they will be [granted] you. Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if
you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will
also forgive you your transgressions. But if you do not forgive, neither will
your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions." Mark 11:20-26 NASB
Jesus taught forgiveness. It is so important to forgive…so that you can be
forgiven, too, but also because the emotions that develop from unforgiveness are devastating.
Bitterness and anger build walls in relationships and eat away at one’s
internal organs—creating diseases that can be terminal. Funny thing about that
unforgiveness and bitterness…sometimes the person who is “unforegiven” doesn’t
even know that the anger and bitterness exist against them. It doesn’t hurt
them…only the person holding onto that anger and bitterness. In the Old
Testament people are taught about God’s forgiveness. God is the basis of
forgiveness. We need to follow God’s plan. Listen and obey.
They refused to obey and did not remember the
miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a
leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt! But you are a God of
forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in
unfailing love. You did not abandon them…. Nehemiah 9:17
But you offer forgiveness, that we might
learn to fear you. Psalm 130:4
Have you asked God for forgiveness of your
sins…and accepted His gift of eternal life? Do you see yourself as obedient to
the Lord? Are you forgiving others?
Prayer
~ Lord God…forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us.
