One
day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless
them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw
what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, "Let
the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to
those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't
receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." Then he took
the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

Touch is so
important. I am frequently reminded of a study where babies in an orphanage
were not held or touched…and they died. We all need touch—hugs, kisses,
backrubs…and even smiles. Consider people in nursing homes who sit in
their hallways all day…and the loneliness they feel—they are like those babies
who need a touch—a hug. Jesus had compassion on the families to the point of anger with His
disciples. Don’t keep those little ones away! He gave them a hug and blessed
them.
I recently
saw a Facebook post of kindergarteners who greeted each other every day with a
smile and a handshake. Many of them were hugging each other. What a great way
to start the day! Not so many problems in the classroom…and probably no one
going to the school nurse asking to go home because they had problems with
other classmates…or even school work. When the class is happy, work gets attended
to and done. Smile and be happy. The Kingdom of God belongs to those who are
like children—open to learning and love. Giving and receiving. Believing that
God is Love.
Are you like
those children…or are you like the disciples that don’t want to be bothered?
Prayer
~ Lord God, I come to You today…like those children—seeking Your love and
attention. Shower it on me and on my family, friends and neighbors. May we
enter Your Kingdom rejoicing in Your love and bringing others to receive Your
blessing.
