I’m studying the parable of the Prodigal
Son (Luke 15)—from a book The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller—with my
study group from church during Lent. The verses from this passage in Psalm 25
are reminiscent…or maybe I should say “predictive” of the Prodigal sons. We all
consider the younger son “rebellious” these verses are applicable when
considering the son who demanded his inheritance and then ran off to spend it.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my
youth…. he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
The older son was also rebellious, but in a
subtle, pretentious, self-righteous way that deceives others.
…disgrace comes to those who try to deceive
others….
Jesus brought Psalm 25 message to life in
His Lost Sons parable. This is the time of Lent when it is appropriate to turn
to God. Then follow the road that the Lord shows you—the straight path that
leads to Him.
Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay
on the safe path. Proverbs 4:26
Both brothers needed to be shown a road to follow. How about you…do you
need the Lord to show you a road to follow...a path for your life?

Prayer
~ Lord God, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God!
Do not let me be disgraced, or let my
enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
Show me the right path, O LORD; point out
the road for me to follow.
Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you
are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.
Remember, O LORD, your compassion and
unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past.
Do not remember the rebellious sins of my
youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O
LORD.
The LORD is good and does what is right; he
shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing
right, teaching them his way.
The LORD leads with unfailing love and
faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands May we live a holy life before You—pleasing You
in all that we think, say and do.
