"To what can I compare this
generation? It is like children playing a game in the public square. They
complain to their friends, 'We played wedding songs, and you didn't dance, so
we played funeral songs, and you didn't mourn.' Matthew 11:16-19
"To what can I compare the
people of this generation?" Jesus asked. "How can I describe them?
They are like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to
their friends, 'We played wedding songs, and you didn't dance, so we played
funeral songs, and you didn't weep.' Luke 7:31-32
That generation during Jesus’ life on earth
doesn’t seem much different from this current generation. Complaining? Complacent?
Distracted? Self-centered? Just focused on being entertained or on the current
political situation. We should be fans…but fans who are fanatical about
Jesus—about being His disciples and going out to spread His word. Living our
best to show how Jesus changes our life.
What is Jesus’ promise in this scripture? People
are like children. Not responsible…innocent…but loved.
One day some parents brought their children
to Jesus so He could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the
parents for bothering him. When Jesus saw what was happening, He was angry with
his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop
them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I
tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child
will never enter it." Then He took the children in His arms and placed His
hands on their heads and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16 .
Prayer
~ Lord Jesus, may others see You in us—not as children playing games—but as joy
