Do You Need Wisdom?

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:5-8

Do you need wisdom? Spiritual wisdom? Can you manage with the amount you have now? Do you want more? You’ve heard this time and again…if you need wisdom—ask God and He will give it to you. In his wisdom from God, James gives some additional direction here for believers to be sure that their faith and loyalty is in God alone—not wavering. Those who are unsure, unstable and are sometimes trusting in worldly wisdom will not receive God’s wisdom and blessing. Where is your heart?

Rise Above - Seek Wisdom

We are promised by Jesus that whatever we ask in His name, will be given to us. John encourages the followers that those who believe in Jesus and obey His commands will receive what they for. An added benefit is JOY! How awesome is that!

…. Ask, using My name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.  John 16:24

And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him. 1 John 3:22

In addition, it is wonderful that others can ask for wisdom for their fellow Christians—like Paul did in his letter to the church at Colosse. To know that my Christian friends are praying for me is so encouraging—so likewise, I pray for them.

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. Colossians 1:9-10

Ask—for yourself and for others. Seek more spiritual wisdom. Prayer is the key to a good relationship with God. Pray. Listen. Obey.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, just as Paul prayed for the church at Colosse, I ask for spiritual wisdom for myself, my family, friends and neighbors…and those reading this blog. Please give us wisdom and understanding…as well as complete knowledge of Your will. Guide and direct our hearts that we would live lives pleasing and honoring You.
