It is a wise action to choose to follow
Christ. We all have choices every day. We choose how we spend our time, energy,
and money. So what are you going to do today? One possibility is to build a relationship
with Jesus Christ—to spend time reading His word…the Bible…and getting to know
Him. Even reading books by Christian authors, listening to Christian speakers
or music can be encouraging in your walk with Christ. Thankfulness. Books have
been written on that subject. One of my favorites is One Thousand Gifts –
Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp. She encourages her
readers to be thankful for three things a day and to record those in a thankful
journal. I am grateful that she took the time to write that book and encourage
others. Another inspiring thing is the song that includes the lyrics, “Give
thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because
He’s given Jesus Christ,
His Son”. Giving thanks is the sort of thing that people think about in the
fall…when it is Thanksgiving time. But with God, all days are Thanksgiving
Days. We can choose to be thankful…and grow close to God…or not. It is our
choice.
Choose to put your roots down deep in God's
spiritual truths. Be like the tree firmly planted by the river. They
(those who meditate on God’s word day and night) are like trees planted along
the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they
prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:3. They prosper. Isn’t that what we all
want to do? We want to be spiritually content and successful, filled with joy,
peace, patience, kindness and goodness.
Prayer
~ Lord Jesus, please give us grace that we would be content to do your will and
not our own. Fill us once again with the Holy Spirit that we would have joy,
peace, patience, kindness and goodness all the days of our lives. Protect and
guide us that all we do would bring You peace and contentment.
