Hope. That is what God provides for us in
our Savior Jesus Christ. Hope that that erases the mistakes we’ve created in
our lives—takes away our sin, encourages us when we are down, gives us eternal
security knowing that Heaven will be our home one day, and teaches us to love
one another…and ourselves. Without God’s wisdom in our lives how could we know
how to live? Sure there is wisdom of the world—telling us how to get rich,
overcome oppression or depression, lose weight, find the right mate, or other
innumerable how-tos. But that wisdom does not give us the eternal hope that God
provides. Paul was instructing Titus on how to teach the people at the church
in Crete—and even us now. Turn from godless living and sinful pleasures,
seeking instead wisdom from God so that we can live in this evil world in a
right way…with a righteousness and devotion that is pleasing to God.
Living to honor God is the best way to live. The verses below were written by Paul to the church at Corinth—and I find them very encouraging (underlining is my emphasis).
So we have not stopped praying for you since
we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will
and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live
will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind
of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better
and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious
power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be
filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the
inheritance that belongs to His people, who live in the light. Colossians
1:9-12
Is God glorified in all that you think, say
and do? Are you encouraged with hope in the Lord?
Prayer
~ Have Your way in our lives Lord. May all that we think, say and do honor You
as You give us wisdom to live out our days in this world—evil as it is—and as
we look forward with hope to the future with You.
