It is pretty easy to be happy when you are
around someone who is truly happy—rejoicing! But it can be awkward to be around
people who are mourning or weeping—crying their eyes out. If it family or
someone with whom you are really close...then it is easier to cry along with
them—to feel their pain. When was the last time you really cried with someone? Years
ago I discovered that crying gave me a headache—so I stopped crying at things
like weddings. My eyes do water easily…so saying “good-bye” to loved ones…and
even reading some Facebook postings brings tears to my eyes. What am I to do? I’m
weeping with those who weep. The Holy Spirit is giving guidance to the Romans…and
to us as well. Don’t worry…be happy…and go ahead and cry. It’s good for others
and for you.
Prayer
~ Holy Spirit, create in us empathy for deeply feeling the joy and sorrows of
our fellow Christians.
