All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We
have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of
us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was
led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,
he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared
that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But
he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had
never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich
man's grave. But it was the LORD's good plan to crush him and cause him grief.
Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants.
He will enjoy a long life, and the LORD's good plan will prosper in his hands.
When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And
because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many
to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the
honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was
counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels. Isaiah
53:1-12 NLT
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit from
the time that He was baptized—maybe earlier—maybe all His life. Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus
was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy
Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of
heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." Luke
3:21-22. The Holy Spirit led Him into the desert and then beyond…And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power
of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. Luke
4:14. Jesus gave it His all…all through His ministry. He was obedient—while we
were sinful. He was despised by most of the Jewish leaders—while we generally
follow our own path and do everything we can to be accepted by everyone around
us. Some people today even reject Jesus—just like the Pharisees. Do they
realize that Jesus died for their sin? He died for everyone’s sin—the near
perfect and the disobedient rebels. Where do you stand with Jesus? Do you
believe the message?
Prayer
~ Jesus and Holy Spirit…open my eyes to see You both as You are…and my You
count me among Your righteous followers—not a rebel. Thank you for taking my
sin to the cross and for interceding for me with the Heavenly Father.
