You’ve
probably heard someone talk about having an “open mind” –one that is willing to
try to understand anything with no preconceived ideas or prejudices. In the
scripture passage below Jesus is talking about something much different and more
powerful. Understanding the Scriptures. This is especially pertaining to comprehending
the salvation presented in God’s word, which at that time was only what we now
call the Old Testament.

| LORD God, open our minds... to understand You Word. |
Then he (Jesus speaking to His disciples after His resurrection) said, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said, "Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.' You are witnesses of all these things. "And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven." Luke 24:44-49 (Emphasis added.)
Meditate. Think about God opening your mind to understand His words.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, like the father of the demon possessed young man…help my unbelief, as recorded in Mark. "What do you mean, 'If I can'?" Jesus asked. "Anything is possible if a person believes." The father instantly cried out, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!" Mark 9:23-24. Help me to see You working in my life.
Verses
of Salvation ~ Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we ask you to pray for us.
Pray that the Lord's message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it
goes, just as when it came to you. Pray, too, that we will be rescued from
wicked and evil people, for not everyone is a believer. But the Lord is
faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. And we are
confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we
commanded you. May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and
expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
