A lot of people that I know read their Bibles, have gone to Bible studies, and at least occasionally attend a worship on Sunday mornings, but if you ask them if they’ve heard the voice of God…or the voice of the LORD—they just grimace a little and sort of shake their heads. Either they don’t want to admit that they do hear God…or they feel like they should and yet God is silent for them? Do they not realize that God speaks through His Word…the Bible? The Holy Spirit convicts us—guiding us. That too is the “voice of God.” That is how I have experienced God’s voice. And when there is a peace about it, I know that it is from the Lord.
Some of the stories in the Old Testament include the Lord speaking to Noah and to the prophet Elijah. When He spoke to Elijah, it wasn’t a loud, booming voice that you might expect from Almighty God.Did God whisper or shout a message to Noah?

"Go out and stand before me on
the mountain," the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD
passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible
blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After
the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And
after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And
after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:11-12
A quiet,
gentle whisper. That’s not what Elijah expected, nor is it what we expect as we
listen for the Lord. That is the key. Are you listening for the Lord to speak
to you? Are you so busy talking to Him, that you don’t pause and listen, or at
that point, pick up your Bible and read, listening for what He has to say?
Challenge
yourself today to listen for the Lord. He may be speaking in a loud voice or a
quiet one. Pray and use discernment to know if the “voice” you hear is really from
the LORD.
As recorded in the New Testament,
Jesus Himself spoke to the Jews, to His disciples, and to us. In this scripture
passage below Jesus is telling those listening that if they believe in Him,
they will have eternal life. Are you listening? Do you have faith and believe
that you will have eternal life with Him? Faith to believe. Faith to trust.
Listen. You will hear the voice of the LORD.
The voice of the LORD echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The LORD thunders over the mighty sea. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. The voice of the LORD splits the mighty cedars; the LORD shatters the cedars of Lebanon. ... The voice of the LORD twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare. In his Temple everyone shouts, "Glory!" ... The LORD gives his people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace. Psalm 29:3-5, 9, 11
I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. And I assure you that time is coming, indeed it's here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son. John 5:24-26
Meditate.
Read the words of God and listen to what He is saying.
Prayer – Lord, I am listening. Let me hear Your voice and feel Your presence in my life, today and always. I believe in You…and in our Heavenly Father God who sent You here. I believe in Your resurrection, Your ascension, and that You will return one day and take all the believers to Your home in heaven.
Verse of Salvation ~ After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, "Praise the LORD! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. Revelation 19:1
