Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, I sing praises to You…and listen
for the sound of the Trumpets.
The LORD said to Moses, "Give the following instructions to
the people of Israel. On the first day of the appointed month in early autumn,
you are to observe a day of complete rest. It will be an official day for holy
assembly, a day commemorated with loud blasts of a trumpet. You must do no
ordinary work on that day. Instead, you are to present special gifts to the
LORD." Leviticus 23:23-25 Early Autumn
Leaves changing
Time for a rest and Trumpets!
Listen closely.
Meditate. Listen for the sound of the shofar.
Listen for the sound of the trumpet—the wail of the shofar horn.
It isn’t long until the Feast of Trumpets—one of the great
Jewish festivals. It is the first of the fall festivals. It commemorates the
creation of the world and is the start of the New Year on the Jewish calendar,
or Rosh Hashanah. See Leviticus 23:23-25 (above) and Numbers 29:1-6. This year
it begins at sunset on September 15, continuing to sunset on September 17,
2023. The sound of the trumpet, blown 100 times, is a reminder that God calls
His people to repent. The Feast of Trumpets is followed by ten days, Days of
Awe, of repentance and introspection. The Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur,
that occurs immediately after the Days of Awe, are considered High Holy days
for the Jews.
Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement, when Jews ask for
forgiveness from God and others. That day ends joyously celebrating that their
sins are forgiven and their names are inscribed in the Book of Life for another
year. This year Yom Kippur is celebrated on September 25, 2023. Prophesy
predictors are saying that these coming dates are very significant. God didn’t
write prophesy in the Bible for us to ignore, but He also didn’t give us a
specific calendar saying exact day of Christ Jesus’ return or the rapture for a
reason. Do you think people would procrastinate until the last minute to accept
Jesus as their Savior if they knew the day and the hour of His return? Sure,
they would. As it is, God is waiting for people’s response.
The Lord isn't
really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being
patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants
everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9
Repent and be saved. Now is a time to give glory…and sing.
To sing praises to God! To sing praises to our King! Give Him glory. Is He your
King and Savior? If not, seek Him today.
When we were restricted from attending church in person,
during COVID, it was difficult to truly worship. Oh sure, we attended church
via Facebook or YouTube, but it wasn’t as worshipful as corporate worship in
person. There is something to be said about true worship before the Lord in a
place of worship. Although some people say they can worship God anywhere—and I
do think it is possible—do people actually stop and worship God when they are
out in nature hiking or even boating? I have prayed, sang hymns and choruses,
and felt the presence of God outside of a worship service in a church—but
lifting up my hand and praising the Lord is a deeply moving experience in God’s
house. I look forward to the day when I can worship Him in person—face to face.
For now, I’ll listen for the sound of the trumpet, intentionally and joyfully
worshiping Him day by day…moment by moment…not just on Sunday in a designated
building. I want to honor God as I sing praises to Him in my heart—wherever I
am. He is there with me and within me. My heart is the Temple of the Holy
Spirit.
Verse of Salvation ~ Come, let us sing to the LORD! Let
us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1
