Prayer – Lord, as these angels blow their trumpets, more
destruction occurs. Why? What’s in Your plan? Please give me wisdom to understand
this scripture.
Then the seven angels with the seven trumpets
prepared to blow their mighty blasts. The first angel blew his trumpet, and
hail and fire mixed with blood were thrown down on the earth. One-third of the
earth was set on fire, one-third of the trees were burned, and all the green
grass was burned. Then the second angel blew his trumpet, and a great mountain
of fire was thrown into the sea. One-third of the water in the sea became
blood, one-third of all things living in the sea died, and one-third of all the
ships on the sea were destroyed. Then the third angel blew his trumpet, and a
great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch. It fell on one-third of the
rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star was Bitterness. It
made one-third of the water bitter, and many people died from drinking the
bitter water. Then the fourth angel blew his trumpet, and one-third of the sun
was struck, and one-third of the moon, and one-third of the stars, and they
became dark. And one-third of the day was dark, and also one-third of the
night. Then I looked, and I heard a single eagle crying loudly as it flew
through the air, "Terror, terror, terror to all who belong to this world
because of what will happen when the last three angels blow their
trumpets." Revelation 8:6-13
Meditate. Consider the destruction of hail, fire, tainted
drinking water, and darkness.
Trumpets. The ram’s horn was used as a signal before
trumpets. In Exodus we have the account of when the Lord revealed himself to
the Hebrew people.
Then the LORD told
Moses, "Go down and prepare the people for my arrival. Consecrate them
today and tomorrow, and have them wash their clothing. Be sure they are ready
on the third day, for on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai as all
the people watch. Mark off a boundary all around the mountain. Warn the people,
'Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or even touch its boundaries. Anyone
who touches the mountain will certainly be put to death. No hand may touch the
person or animal that crosses the boundary; instead, stone them or shoot them
with arrows. They must be put to death.' However, when the ram's horn sounds a
long blast, then the people may go up on the mountain." Exodus
19:10-13
A trumpet sound can indicate an alarm, as in a blast of
war, or a sound of joy. The word “trumpet” is first seen in the Bible when the
Lord is giving instruction to Moses for the Feast of Trumpets.
"Give the
following instructions to the people of Israel. On the first day of the
appointed month in early autumn, you are to observe a day of complete rest. It
will be an official day for holy assembly, a day commemorated with loud blasts
of a trumpet. You must do no ordinary work on that day. Instead, you are to
present special gifts to the LORD." Leviticus 23:24-25
The last time in Revelation that a trumpet reverberation is
when the seventh angel blow’s its horn.
Then the seventh
angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven:
"The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and
he will reign forever and ever." Revelation 11:15
Fire. Bitterness. Darkness. |
First
Trumpet – Hail and fire cast to earth resulting in fires on one-third of the
earth
Second
Trumpet – Fire thrown into the sea resulting in one third of water turned to
blood, one-third of sea life dies, one third of ships destroyed.
Third
Trumpet – Star called “Bitterness” fell into the earth’s waters causing one
third of waters to become bitter and many people die.
Fourth
Trumpet – One-third of sun, moon and stars became dark, so day and night are
darkened, which I’d think would cause fear in many people.
Then
image an eagle flying by warning people that the last three trumpets sounding
will cause terror to come to those who belong to the earth—not to those who
belong to God.
These trumpets seem pretty scary—what could be worse?
Read ahead if you are anxious for more of the story. The
fifth trumpet and sixth trumpets are recorded in Revelation 9. That sounding of
the last trumpet, number seven, is described in Revelation 10 and 11. That
final trumpet fulfills God’s plan.
We’ll continue to explore the events of Revelation in the
coming days. Remember Jesus’ command to His disciples.
You also must be
ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Luke
12:40
Do you consider Jesus to be your Messiah? Are you ready for
His return? Have you recently repented, returned to seeking Jesus to be first
in your life, and experienced a revival?
Verse of Salvation ~ But may all who search for you be
filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, "The LORD is great! Psalm 40:16
