Memory Verse of the Week ~
God
saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this;
it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have
done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9
Although salvation
cannot be earned—once it is obtained by faith, belief, and with a repentant
heart, sins are forgiven—you are holy. As time goes by we slip back into our sinful
nature—that is human nature, but we have a choice to seek holiness or allow ourselves
to slide back down into sinful ways. It is good to continually be repentant and seek God’s holiness.
And a great
road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of
Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for
those who walk in God's ways; fools will never walk there. Isaiah 35:8
My Ryrie Study
Bible indicated that this chapter of Isaiah is describing the millennial
kingdom—the Kingdom of the Lord when Jesus will reign on earth for 1000 years.
Can we claim the promise of walking on the Highway of Holiness in God’s ways
now? Yes. Whether this for the future or for now, it is never too early to walk in
God’s ways. Consider the following verses:
You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow
gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who
choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is
difficult, and only a few ever find it. Matthew 7:13-14
So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look
forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is
revealed to the world. So you must live as God's obedient children. Don't slip
back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn't know
any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who
chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy
(see Lev. 11:44-45)." 1 Peter 1:13-16
Be holy. This
action is for God’s own people…so where do you stand with the Lord? Do you
believe in Jesus as your savior? Are you choosing to live a holy life?
Can we be
holy on our own? No—only with God’s help—so pray. Pray that God would open your
eyes and heart that you would live in a way that is pleasing…holy…to Him. Begin
with confession, adoration, thanksgiving and humbly asking for His help in
living and continuing to live a life of holiness. Blessing on you as you seek
the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
Prayer
~ Lord God, You made everything beautiful for its own time. You planted
eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of Your
work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11. May we feel Your love and protection
in our lives—and be filled with joy in the anticipation of eternity with You. Help
us to choose holiness.

Figs from my tree last summer. |
What
do you suppose was Jesus’ favorite food? We know He liked figs and was
disappointed that the fig tree along His path one day was barren. Figs are best
eaten fresh and raw. I am looking forward to some fresh figs from my own tree
this summer. The tree is still surrounded by snow, but I know it made it
through our unusually late and harsh winter.
What
could be better than figs and chocolate? I found a scrumptious recipe for
Chocolate Covered Figs in giverecipe.com on Pinterest and hope to try it as
soon as there are fresh figs available. We should be seeing fresh figs in our
local supermarkets beginning in late May through mid-June and then again at the
end of August through October. They perish quickly so use them right away when
you buy them. Look for more Fig Recipes here on this Banquet With The King blog in the next couple of weeks.
Chocolate Covered Figs
7 ounces of the best quality chocolate bars (that is two 3.5
ounce bars)
2 Tbsp COLD milk
6 fresh figs
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Add cold milk and
mix. It will get thicker. Let the mixture cool to room temperature. Divide into
six balls, a bit larger than the figs. Flatten the balls out. Place a fig in
the center of each chocolate ball and close it up. Place on parchment paper and
refrigerate for 4 hours to overnight. Serve cold. Slice if desired before
serving, but if the figs are small enough, just pop them in your mouth and
enjoy!
Happy Birthday, Kim
May you continue to be blessed
by our gracious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
as you seek and serve Him!
